Research Pop-Up: Mathematical Creativity
Most creativity tests are looking at general, not domain-specific creativity. Additionally, when testing mathematical ability, assessments often treat the topic as a unidimensional rather than multidimensional construct (Kattou et al., 2013). Identifying students gifted in mathematical creativity can help for placement into gifted programs (Kattou et al., 2013; Mann, 2009). Most importantly, helping teachers recognize the importance of divergent, creative mathematical teaching and ways to teach this and help students learn these skills is vital if we are to prepare students for the needs of our future (Kattou et al., 2013; Mann, 2009; Pham & Cho, 2018). Research Pop-Up: Effects of Participation in Computer Science Activities on Attitudes and Interests of Gifted Elementary Students
There is a global push in computer science however, we need to know more about the impact of exposing gifted and talented elementary students to computer science. There is a gap in the literature about elementary students’ attitudes and perceptions of computer science and even fewer studies about GT students. What happens to student interest in computer science when first through sixth grade GT students participate in computer science activities? This Action Research conducted in a GT classroom explores the effects of offering computer science activities on students' attitudes and interests in future computer science activities and careers.
